Moving Through Play Therapy:  Incorporating Movement and Dance in Play Therapy (Beginning)

Because of the mind/body connection, play therapy clients often benefit from body-centered experiences like dance, movement, and yoga. In this workshop you will learn creative and fun play therapy interventions based on movement. Dance skills not required.

Learning Objectives:

At the end of this workshop, participants will be able to…

  1. Explain the rationale for using movement-based activities in play therapy.
  2. Demonstrate 2 different movement/dance activities that can be used to build relationships with play therapy clients.
  3. Demonstrate 2 movement/dance activities to help play therapy clients explore their lifestyles and gain insight into specific issues.
  4. Demonstrate 2 movement/dance activities to help play therapy clients explore new ways of solving problems and dealing with relationships.

Nikole Pauli, LMHC, NCC, RPT-S, CAdPT

Nikki runs a successful private practice in her college turned home town of Cedar Falls, IA. She is passionate about walking alongside adults, children, families, and couples. Nikki is an approved Adlerian play therapy consultant and teacher for the League of Extraordinary Adlerian Play Therapists (LEAPT).

Ellen Daly, LISW, RPT-S, CAdPT

Ellen is a Licensed Independent Social Worker, Certified Yoga Teacher, and Registered Play Therapist Supervisor in group private practice in Iowa City, Iowa. She is an approved Adlerian play therapy consultant and teacher for the League of Extraordinary Adlerian Play Therapists (LEAPT).

Beyond Toys:  Integrating Culture into Your Playroom-Sunnycho Teeling (Intermediate)

In this presentation, participants will explore the importance of culture in play therapy, how culture might manifest in the playroom, and how to apply that knowledge to deliver more culturally sensitive services.

Meet the Presenter

Sunnycho Teeling, MA, LMHC

Sunny Teeling graduated from the University of Northern Iowa in 2017. She has trained under renowned play therapists such as Dr. Terry Kottman and Dr. Dee Ray. Her areas of specialty include working with children and families who have diverse backgrounds.
